Is Virtual Reality Tiring You Out? Here are 10 Sources of Inspiration That’ll Rekindle Your Love

I used to be a virtual reality gaming fanatic, but these days I’m getting tired of it. I just haven’t found many compelling new experiences to try, and the ones I have tried didn’t excite me nearly as much as they did when VR was first getting started. I know there are plenty of other VR gamers out there who feel the same way, and I’ve found 10 great sources of inspiration that will reinvigorate your love of virtual reality games and experiences once again!

1) Escape into nature

Often, when we get tired of our virtual reality worlds, getting away from them and into nature can help us recharge. Our brains prefer natural environments because they’re calm, beautiful, and full of things to see and explore. Spending time in nature can open our eyes to inspiration for VR games we never imagined possible—and then encourage us to pursue them!

2) Reminisce about simpler times

If you’re feeling a little tired and jaded by today’s modern technologies, it’s time to take a step back. For an injection of inspiration and creativity, spend some time reminiscing about simpler times. It doesn’t have to be anything profound—maybe just reading a book from your childhood or spending an afternoon at a museum—but taking a break from modern tech can renew your passion for virtual reality and other cutting-edge technologies.

3) Ditch your smartphone

We know how addicting smartphones can be, but are you getting tired of virtual reality? If so, ditch your smartphone and enjoy these 10 sources of inspiration. When you put down your smartphone and turn off your computer, it’s easy to feel drained instead of inspired. But you shouldn’t feel like you have to spend all day staring at a screen to keep up with trends or succeed in today’s job market.

4) Pick up an old game from your childhood

Even if you’re a VR enthusiast, odds are you spent time with traditional game controllers when you were younger. Revisit some old favorites for inspiration.

Even better: Take your new interest in VR and combine it with your nostalgia to create a unique experience no one else has explored before. If nothing else, it’ll be fun to see what kind of craziness springs forth from mixing together two things that don’t seem all that similar at first glance!

5) Create something instead of consuming it

Don’t just play games or watch videos—try making something! It doesn’t have to be anything real, per se. Sometimes it can be as simple as a coloring book for yourself. But having some kind of creation in your life will help you stay inspired and re-energized about what you love about virtual reality.

6) Use VR to its full potential

Understanding that virtual reality is truly a revolutionary technology, you should use it to its full potential. The following are some useful tips to guide you through your VR journey. These can help anyone interested in using VR as an educational tool or for entertainment purposes.

1) Move around: If you’re going to play games in virtual reality, be sure that they include options for moving around freely and looking around while playing. It will take time to get used to being able to move within a game world, but once you do it becomes second nature. 2) Be immersed: Get yourself immersed in whatever environment you’re exploring—that means sound effects and visuals alike.

7) Play board games with friends and family

Play Monopoly, Chess and other board games online with friends in VR

There’s a reason why families keep their old Scrabble set or monopoly board game in their cupboard. Playing with your loved ones has been proven to increase social connectivity, decrease stress and improve mental health. In fact, even if you don’t feel like playing a traditional board game, try creating your own.

8) Embrace imperfections

One of VR’s selling points is its ability to transport users to other worlds and immerse them in new experiences. Too often, though, VR creators aim for perfection, creating a product that resembles real life but lacks soul. This is particularly true with developers who are overly focused on realistic graphics and graphics-intensive projects such as games or experiential videos. Rather than obsessing over getting every detail right in a virtual environment, just be true to your vision – flaws and all.

9) Try something new (risky!)

As great as it is, there are a few aspects of smart devices that simply aren’t good enough for virtual reality. In fact, the all-in-one design of today’s phones make them less than ideal for VR because their screens aren’t big enough or don’t have low enough latency. The phone/display combo also makes VR headsets heavier and harder to use comfortably.

10) Get into a healthy habit like running or cooking

If you’re feeling fatigued from constant exposure to virtual reality, consider getting into a healthy habit like running or cooking. These activities will allow you to experience more real life and reduce your reliance on virtual reality. As a bonus, they’ll also improve your health and wellness. Not that there’s anything wrong with VR—but it can be overdone!
